TikTok is focusing on online safety for minors
In a technology driven world one can never be too careful when it comes to the safety of your child, be it outside the home or online. For that reason the massively popular platform has added even more safety features to protect the impressionable youth of the world.
What is TikTok doing to keep your minor safe online?
Child exploitation and cyberbullying is real and parents do not always see the warning signs when it comes to how your teen can be affected mentally by the community they interact with in the cyber world or how far a child will go to be revered by their peers.
Luckily online platforms are always revising and adding features to protect their users. TikTok, one of the youths favourite short-form video apps, has been working non-stop on improving user safety. Their latest focus has been aimed at keeping underage users safe by improving their online safety when using the app.
The first change to the app will be that underage account messages will be set to ‘no one’ instead of ‘friends’, meaning that they will not be able to receive direct messages from followers unless the settings are changed. Push notifications aimed at getting your minor to spend more time on the app will also be limited. Depending on the users age, notifications will be turned off or limited to 10pm at night.
These are just some of the ongoing features being pushed out to protect your child, helping you as a parent look out for your precious minor in an ever changing world.
